Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a highly effective and popular non-surgical treatment for addressing vein conditions. This minimally invasive procedure involves injecting a special solution directly into the affected veins, causing them to shrink, collapse, and eventually fade away. It is a preferred method for treating spider veins and small varicose veins, restoring the appearance of smooth, healthy skin.

Conditions Treated

Sclerotherapy is primarily used to treat:

Spider Veins

Procedure Overview

  • Consultation

During your initial consultation, Dr. Tawfik will evaluate your veins and review the procedure, addressing any concerns you may have.

  • Preparation

The area to be treated will be thoroughly cleaned, and you may be asked to stand to facilitate a better view of the veins.

  • Injection

A fine needle is used to inject a sclerosing agent directly into the affected veins. The solution irritates the lining of the veins, causing them to collapse and eventually fade away.

  • Compression

Compression stockings or bandages are applied to the treated area to assist in the collapse of the veins and reduce the risk of blood clot formation.

  • Post-Procedure Care

This may include avoiding certain activities and wearing compression garments as directed.

FAQs

Sclerotherapy can cause mild discomfort, often described as a mild burning or stinging sensation during the injections. Most patients find the discomfort very tolerable.

Spider veins are generally considered a cosmetic concern and not a serious health issue. However, they could indicate an underlying venous insufficiency, which should be evaluated by a vein doctor.

While spider veins may not be entirely preventable, regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, elevating the legs, and avoiding prolonged periods of standing or sitting can help minimize their appearance.
